Since
1998, insurance and private companies have done studies
on the effectiveness of the DriverCheck program. Below are
the results of five studies that were done. The studies
were compiled by different companies - sometimes by the
actuarial department, sometimes by other units within the
companies. Since each study was independent of the others,
there was no uniformity of design, except that each had
as its goal to measure the effectiveness of the DriverCheck
program as it related to collision frequency and costs.
Here are some findings from these studies. (If you have
any questions about any of these studies, please ask us
directly.)
Study
from Insurance Company A: This study showed a collision-frequency
reduction of 22 percent and a collision-cost reduction of
28 percent. The study was done by the actuarial department.
Using this data, the loss control division estimated that
they received a 20-to-1 return on investment from DriverCheck.
For every dollar they spent, they saved $20.
Study
from Insurance Company B: This study used a small sample
and did not calculate collision cost reductions. However,
the data showed a 53 percent collision frequency reduction
in the first year on the program, and the consensus was
that the cost savings would be substantial.
Study
from Insurance Company C: This insurance company studied
their clients on DriverCheck for one year and estimated
a 27 percent reduction in collision frequency. They
did not give us a percentage for collision-cost reduction
but did tell us that they estimated that they saved $5
million on their total book of business by including
DriverCheck as a value-added service to their insureds.
Study
from Private Company A: A very large client-with tens
of thousands of vehicles on the program-did a study on their
reductions during the first year with DriverCheck. They
did not give us percentages related to collision and cost
reductions; however, they estimated that DriverCheck
saved them more than $1 million in collision-related
expenses.
Study
from Private Company B: Another large client recently
released a study done over 22 months. During that period,
they saw their collision frequency reduced by 36 percent,
saving more than $600,000, and estimated their return
on invest to be 24 to 1. For every dollar they spent
on DriverCheck, they saved $24.
